Group Therapy

You don’t have to do this alone.

It can be easy to believe you’re the only one who feels this way. Or perhaps we think something is wrong with us or that we have to hide what we’re really going through. Group therapy proves otherwise. In a room of people who understand, you discover you were never as alone as you feared.

We aren’t meant to navigate life in isolation.

Group therapy offers something unique: the opportunity to experience yourself in relationship with others. As you share, listen, connect, and receive honest feedback in a safe environment, new possibilities begin to emerge. Many people discover that they feel understood in ways they didn’t expect and leave feeling less alone, more hopeful, and more connected to themselves and others.

At Nashville Psych, our Interpersonal Process Groups are thoughtfully led by experienced therapists who create a safe, respectful, and confidential space where meaningful change can happen. It’s one of the most powerful forms of healing available.

Why Interpersonal Process Group Therapy?

Many of the challenges that bring people to therapy happen in relationships or affect the way we relate to others. Anxiety can make it hard to speak up. Depression can lead us to withdraw. Past experiences may leave us expecting rejection, conflict, or disappointment.

While individual therapy provides a space to understand these patterns, group therapy gives you the opportunity to experience something different.

Within the safety of the group, you can begin to notice old patterns, explore them with curiosity, and experiment with new ways of connecting. Over time, those experiences often carry into your relationships outside the therapy room.

What to expect

Every group is led by a trained Nashville Psych therapist who guides the conversation while helping create a culture of respect, honesty, and confidentiality.

You will never be pressured to share before you’re ready. Many people spend time simply listening at first. As trust develops, most find themselves naturally becoming more comfortable sharing, offering support, and learning from one another.

Each group develops its own rhythm, but members often find themselves:

  • Feeling less alone in what they’re experiencing
  • Receiving thoughtful feedback from others
  • Better understanding their relationship patterns
  • Practicing more authentic communication
  • Building confidence in connecting with others
  • Developing greater self-awareness and emotional resilience

Interpersonal Process Group therapy may be helpful if you are experiencing:

  • Anxiety or social anxiety
  • Depression or isolation
  • Grief and loss
  • Relationship or interpersonal challenges
  • Life transitions
  • Difficulty trusting or connecting with others
  • A desire for deeper self-understanding and personal growth

Why group therapy works

There is something powerful about discovering that the way you relate to people can change.

Group becomes a place to practice being more yourself, taking healthy risks, setting boundaries, receiving feedback, and seeing how others experience you, all within the support of a skilled therapist.

Many people find that the relationships they build within the group become an important part of their healing. They leave with greater confidence, deeper insight, and new ways of relating that extend well beyond the therapy room.

For many people, group therapy works beautifully alongside individual therapy. The two approaches often complement and strength one another.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Interpersonal Process Group therapy?

Group therapy is a form of psychotherapy where a small group of people meets regularly with a trained group therapist. Together, members explore their experiences, build meaningful connections, and learn from one another in a safe, confidential environment.

Will I be forced to share personal things?

No. You decide what you share and when you share it. Many people spend their first few sessions listening and getting comfortable before speaking more openly.

Is group therapy confidential?

Yes. Confidentiality is one of the foundations of every group. Your therapist will review clear expectations so everyone understands the importance of protecting one another’s privacy.

Can I participate in both individual and group therapy?

Absolutely. Many people find that individual therapy and group therapy complement each other well. Individual sessions offer focused personal work, while group provides opportunities to practice new ways of relating in real time.

How is Interpersonal Process Group therapy different from a support group?

Support groups focus primarily on shared experiences and mutual encouragement. Therapy groups are led by licensed therapists and are designed to help members better understand themselves, their relationships, and the patterns that may be keeping them stuck.

When do Interpersonal Process groups take place?

We have 8 Interpersonal Process Groups throughout the week to fit a variety of schedules. Groups meet on Tuesdays at 9:30-10:45 AM, 12:00-1:15 PM (virtual only), and 5:00-6:15 PM with Dr. Goldstein. On Wednesdays, Dr. Goldstein leads groups at 8:15-9:30 AM, 10:00-11:15 AM, and 11:45 AM-1:00 PM, while Dr. Bhatt facilitates a virtual group from 11:00-12:15 PM. On Thursdays, Dr. Goldstein offers groups at 8:30-9:45 AM and 12:00-1:15 PM.

Do you have any training opportunities for therapists who are interested in group?

We offer 2 Interpersonal Process Training Groups, run by Dr. Goldstein. One takes place on Tuesdays at 3:20-4:50pm (Virtual only) and the other is on Thursdays (In Person) from 10-11:30am (Central).
