Grief & Loss Counseling

Grief is part of being human and loving deeply. You should not have to navigate it alone.

Loss can leave us feeling emotionally adrift, searching for steadiness again. Whether you are mourning the death of someone you love, the end of a relationship, a diagnosis, a job, a pregnancy, or a future you had imagined, grief can feel disorienting, isolating, and far heavier than anyone around you seems to understand. There is no timeline you are supposed to follow and no “right” way to grieve.

You do not need to “get over” your loss or move on from it. Grief counseling is about finding a way to carry what you have lost while slowly reentering your life. With support, the weight becomes more bearable.

Grief takes many forms

Grief is not limited to losing a loved one, and most people do not experience it in a linear way. It can come in waves, surprise you months later, or show up as something that does not look like sadness at all.

You might be grieving:

  • The death of a loved one, sudden or anticipated
  • The end of a marriage or relationship
  • A miscarriage, infertility, or pregnancy loss
  • A serious diagnosis or change in health
  • The loss of a job, role, home, or identity
  • Estrangement, or the loss of a relationship that is still living

Grief can bring sadness, anger, guilt, relief, numbness, anxiety, or all of them at once, sometimes within the same hour. These responses are normal, even when they feel confusing or contradictory.

How counseling helps

Grief counseling offers something rare: a space where your loss is fully acknowledged and you do not have to protect anyone else from your pain. Your therapist walks alongside you, helping you make room for the full range of what you feel, find language for it, and gently reconnect with meaning and life. There is no pressure to rush, and no version of grief that is too much or not enough.

Most grief work happens in individual therapy, tailored to your loss and your pace.

Your path forward

  • Reach out for a gentle, no-pressure consultation.
  • Get matched with a therapist experienced in grief and loss.
  • Move through it at your own pace, with steady support.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does grief last? Is there something wrong if I am still grieving?

There is no set timeline for grief. It does not simply end. Over time, most people find the intensity softens and the loss becomes something they carry rather than something that overwhelms them. Continuing to grieve is not a sign that something is wrong with you.

When should I consider grief counseling?

There is no wrong time. Some people seek support right after a loss, others months or years later when grief resurfaces. If your grief feels overwhelming, isolating, or stuck, or if you simply want a space to process it, counseling can help.

Is it normal to feel relief, anger, or guilt rather than sadness?

Yes. Grief includes a wide and sometimes contradictory range of emotions, including relief, anger, guilt, and numbness. These do not mean you loved any less. A grief therapist can help you make sense of feelings that may feel confusing or hard to admit.

Can I get help for a loss that is not a death?

Absolutely. Grief follows many kinds of loss, including divorce, infertility, illness, job loss, estrangement, and the loss of an imagined future. All of these are valid reasons to seek support.
