How Nisha works

Nisha works from a relational, psychodynamic, and trauma-informed perspective. She works with clients to explore how earlier experiences, important relationships, and family or cultural expectations have shaped the emotions, beliefs, and patterns that show up in clients’ lives today.

She also pays close attention to what develops within the therapy relationship. The way a client experiences closeness, vulnerability, misunderstanding, conflict, or trust in therapy can offer valuable insight into patterns that also appear in other relationships.

Rather than focusing only on reducing symptoms, Nisha helps clients deepen their understanding of themselves. She also helps clients consider what may be needed to live and relate in ways that feel more authentic and fulfilling.

Her work can help clients:

  • Understand recurring emotional or relationship patterns
  • Process trauma, grief, and painful past experiences
  • Navigate competing roles, expectations, or identities
  • Develop a stronger and more compassionate sense of self
  • Explore questions of purpose, meaning, and belonging
  • Communicate more openly in important relationships
  • Feel more connected to their needs, emotions, and values

Nisha strives to create a collaborative space where clients can explore difficult experiences without feeling rushed, reduced to a diagnosis, or separated from the cultural and relational contexts that shape their lives.

Areas of focus

Nisha supports clients navigating:

  • Anxiety and depression
  • Trauma and difficult past experiences
  • Grief and loss
  • Relationship concerns
  • Life transitions and uncertainty
  • Existential concerns and questions of meaning
  • Cultural and racial identity
  • Immigration and intergenerational experiences
  • Family expectations and relational patterns
  • Experiences related to marginalization
  • Couples communication and intimacy concerns

Nisha has a particular interest in working with people from diverse cultural, racial, and immigrant backgrounds, including adult children of immigrants and clients from historically marginalized communities. She understands that emotional struggles do not happen in isolation. Culture, family systems, community, identity, discrimination, and belonging can all influence how people understand themselves and what feels possible in their lives and relationships.

A list of specialties cannot capture every reason someone may seek therapy. Our Client Care team can learn more about what you are experiencing and help determine whether Nisha or another Nashville Psych therapist may be the best fit.

Couples therapy

In her work with couples, Nisha helps partners understand the emotional and relational patterns beneath recurring conflict, disconnection, or communication difficulties.

Couples therapy involves slowing down familiar interactions, identifying the needs and fears each partner brings into the relationship, and developing a greater capacity to listen, communicate, and respond with intention.

Nisha also helps each partner consider how their personal history, family experiences, identity, and expectations may influence the relationship. Her goal is not to decide who is right. Rather, she seeks to help couples develop a deeper understanding of themselves and each other.

Interpersonal process group therapy

Nisha facilitates an interpersonal process group for adults who want to better understand how they relate to others.

Unlike therapy that focuses only on relationships outside the room, interpersonal process group therapy gives members an opportunity to notice relational patterns as they happen. Members can receive feedback, experiment with expressing themselves more openly, and learn how they experience and affect other people.

Group can be especially helpful for people who want to:

  • Develop greater comfort with vulnerability
  • Strengthen trust and emotional intimacy
  • Understand recurring interpersonal patterns
  • Practice communicating needs and boundaries
  • Feel less alone in their experiences
  • Build more authentic and satisfying relationships

It’s common to feel both interested in and uncertain about group therapy. A consultation can help you learn more about how Nisha’s group works and whether it may fit what you are looking for.

Psychological assessment

Nisha also conducts psychological evaluations for concerns related to attention, learning, emotional functioning, behavior, and diagnosis.

Her assessment work includes evaluations for:

  • ADHD
  • Autism
  • Learning difficulties
  • Mood concerns
  • Personality and emotional functioning
  • Other psychological or diagnostic questions

Nisha approaches assessment with attention to the whole person, including their history, identity, culture, relationships, strengths, and current concerns. The goal is not simply to assign a diagnosis, but to develop a clearer and more useful understanding of what someone is experiencing.

Our Client Care team can provide more information about the evaluations currently offered and help determine the appropriate next step.
