Meaningful change happens in relationships, not in isolation.
If you’ve done therapy before, or worked hard at understanding yourself, and still feel stuck in the same relational patterns, you’re exactly the kind of person Dr. Dan Goldstein loves to work with. He believes the deepest, most lasting change happens in connection with others, and he’s built his practice around that belief.
Dr. Goldstein is a Nashville-based counseling psychologist, Certified Group Psychotherapist, and the clinical director and co-founder of Nashville Psych. He approaches therapy with genuine empathy, curiosity, authenticity, humor, and a quiet openness, and a commitment to honesty and emotional courage.

How Dr. Goldstein works
Dan’s clinical work centers on facilitating interpersonal process groups, which he has come to see as one of the most powerful and transformative settings for deep psychological work, especially for people who feel stuck despite insight and effort. His group work is grounded in modern psychoanalytic and interpersonal process traditions, with particular attention to how relationships shape identity, emotion, and change. His groups are an excellent match for people who have been in therapy before or who are motivated to understand and work through the underlying causes of their difficulties in longer-term therapeutic relationships.
While his practice is primarily group-based, Dan also meets individually, on an as-needed basis, with clients participating in his groups. In individual sessions, he emphasizes emotional presence, curiosity about relational patterns as they emerge in real time, and careful attention to how the therapeutic relationship itself becomes a vehicle for change. He is a certified SomEx practitioner and is EMDR-trained, using both to help clients build insight and renegotiate difficult past experiences in the here and now.
Areas of focus
- Interpersonal process group therapy
