Nashville Psych Offers Professional Development For New & Veteran Therapists

“Heal the healer” is a commonly used phrase to refer to helpers’ need for consistent self-care practices. This is, of course, true for psychotherapists. In order to provide the best care to clients, therapists must ensure that they are taking care of themselves and nurturing their own growth. Along those lines, Nashville Psych founder Dan Goldstein, PhD, says that the most nourishing and growth-promoting experiences he’s had in his career have been with the American Academy of Psychotherapists (AAP).

Why The American Academy of Psychotherapists (AAP)?

AAP sees the relationship between therapists and clients as fundamental to the therapeutic process. The organization focuses on helping therapists learn, grow and stay “authentic human beings” in the therapy relationship. This is often accomplished through training, education and ongoing process groups in which therapists can work on their own personal growth.

“I’ve been a member for just over two years, and I cannot get enough of AAP events,” says Dr. Goldstein. “Seeing that there is not much of an AAP presence in Nashville, I am committed to working with AAP colleague Renee Burwell, LCSW to change that.”

Professional Development Event For Therapists

On May 10, 2019, between 5 pm and 9 pm, Dr. Goldstein and Burwell will be hosting the first Salon of the Music City Chapter of AAP, welcoming Nashville-area therapists who are motivated by personal growth and value authentic interpersonal engagement. Participants will have the opportunity to network and enjoy refreshments and a light dinner, followed by a 2.5 hour process group. This group will revolve around the theme: “Insatiable: Hunger for Connection.” Attendees will explore their own ambivalence between their longing for connection and fear of rejection. A Q & A session about AAP will close out the evening.

The salon will be held at the offices of Nashville Psych in Hillsboro Village at 2200 21st Avenue S, Suite 306. There is no charge for this event, but please RSVP to Dr. Goldstein at clientcare@nashvillepsych.com.
