Rachel Gunn, LPC-MHSP

Rachel works with adults, adolescents, and children to help heal from trauma, reduce suffering, navigate life transitions, improve relationships, and reach their full potential. She uses an integrative approach to meet the unique needs of each client. She believes that one of the most important parts of the therapeutic experience – and the most effective for improving clients’ outcomes – is developing a strong foundation and a positive relationship between the therapist and the client, built upon trust, respect, curiosity, and thoughtfulness.

Utilizing a psychodynamic and person-centered framework informed by Internal Family Systems (IFS), Rachel is passionate about working with individuals of all ages, but has a special interest in helping teenagers and young adults navigate issues with identity and personal growth. She is also interested in helping clients struggling with Anxiety, OCD, self esteem, and trauma. She incorporates mindfulness and cognitive behavioral techniques to enhance clients’ coping skills. Gunn is trained in Somatic and Attachment Focused (SAFE) Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, which she uses to help clients process and heal from traumatic experiences.

In her work with children and families, Rachel creates a collaborative approach with parents to improve parent-child relationships. She empowers parents to self-reflect and develop new strategies based on boundaries, validation, and empathy. Using Child-Led Play Therapy, Gunn offers children a safe and compassionate place to express themselves through art and play while simultaneously building new skills for coping and emotional regulation.

In addition to her therapy role, Gunn is a valuable member of Nashville Psych’s (NP’s) assessment team as a Certified Psychological Assistant. Her diagnostic skills help formulate accurate conceptualizations for individuals looking for answers to complex issues. She deeply understands nuances related to neurodiversity (ADHD, ASD, learning differences, and trauma), as well as other diagnoses. Rachel possesses considerable diagnostic skills and is frequently relied upon when identifying different forms of OCD.

Rachel earned a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology from Middle Tennessee State University. Prior to that Rachel received a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology fromSouthern Illinois University Carbondale, where she earned the Gordon F. Pitz Research Award for her honors thesis on executive functioning in ADHD.
